The Interrogation

Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: The Gospel of Mark Scripture: Mark 14:53–65

We all seek justice, both in the world around us and in our personal lives. Deep down, we understand that wrongdoing should be made right. Yet, if we're honest, we sometimes choose to ignore justice for self—perhaps because standing up for the truth feels too costly or because we prioritize our own desires over what is right.

In Mark 14:53–65, we will see the greatest injustice in history: the “trial” of Jesus before the Sanhedrin. The religious leaders, who were called to uphold justice, twisted it to serve their own agenda. We can see this here:

"Again the high priest asked Him, 'Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?' And Jesus said, 'I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.' And the high priest tore his garments and said, 'What further witnesses do we need? You have heard His blasphemy. What is your decision?' And they all condemned Him as deserving death." (Mark 14:61-64)

Instead of looking to the Word of God and the countless witnesses to His miracles and true teaching, they condemned Him. In this sermon, reflect on Christ’s suffering, our need for justice, and the grace of the God who judges rightly.
