The First Exile
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Stand Alone Sermons Scripture: Genesis 1:1– 11:32
Have you ever felt the deep longing for home—a place where you truly belong? As humans, we continually search for that perfect home: a place, a people, a state of being where we are at peace. Yet, time and again, we encounter a restless sense of exile in our hearts. Our longing reminds us that true home is not found in any earthly structure or transient circumstance, but in God Himself—fulfilled ultimately in Jesus Christ.
As we are beginning a new series in Exodus, we will start our series with a three-part overview of Genesis, focusing on our spiritual exile beginning at the Fall. But even then, exile comes with a hopeful promise of return. In Genesis 3:15, God declares,
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
This first glimpse of redemption is our assurance that the state of exile does not need to be our final destination.
