The First Exalted
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Stand Alone Sermons Scripture: Genesis 37:1– 50:26
This sermon concludes our 3-part overview of Genesis to prepare for a series in Exodus. In the final chapters of Genesis (37–50), we’ll see how God used Joseph’s suffering to save His people and bring them into Egypt according to His sovereign plan. The pinnacle of Joseph’s story comes with these words to his brothers:
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. (Genesis 50:20 ESV)
It’s hard to trust God when life is falling apart. When we face betrayal, pain, or silence, we struggle to believe He’s still working. But in Joseph’s story, we’re reminded that even when we can’t see His hand, God is faithfully accomplishing His purposes—for His glory and our good.
