The Rejected Deliverer

Hidden in a basket and saved from the waters of death, Moses grows up with the apparent strength, position, and even passion to deliver Israel. And yet, in a moment of misdirected zeal, he strikes down an Egyptian and is rejected by his own people.

“Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”

It appears Moses wanted to do the right thing. But righteous zeal alone doesn’t save — especially when it’s corrupted by sinful flesh. We long for deliverance, and sometimes we try to bring it about in our own strength, even when it costs us our witness. We need more than human effort or moral zeal. We need a sinless Deliverer.
