The True Deliverer Revealed
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Exodus Scripture: Exodus 3:1–22
We live in a time of deep confusion about identity. People are constantly asking: Who am I? What defines me? Where do I belong? We often shape ourselves by our careers, education, successes or failures, and relationships. Yet our sense of self frequently feels unstable, fragile, and uncertain.
But in Exodus 3, we are confronted with something far greater than self-definition: we encounter the God who defines Himself. When Moses asks what name he should give for the One who has sent him, God responds:
I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you. (Exodus 3:14, ESV)
This is more than a name. It is a revelation of God's identity—He is self-existent, unchanging, eternal, and faithful. And in knowing who He is, we begin to understand who we are: creatures made to know, trust, and serve Him.
This name reveals much about our God, but it also leaves us longing for more. And so we praise the Lord that the fullness of God’s identity is made known in the Son.
