The Reluctant Prophet, The Powerful God
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Exodus Scripture: Exodus 4:1–31
We’ve all had moments where we’ve felt overwhelmed, unqualified, or simply unwilling to step into something hard. Whether it’s a difficult conversation, a call to serve, or a step of faith, we often find ourselves saying, in one way or another, “Please send someone else.”
In Exodus 4 Moses says those exact words to the Lord. But, He still uses Moses in his weakness and answers with His power and patience. The Lord says:
“Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” (Exodus 4:12, ESV)
His reluctance reveals a deeper struggle we all face: We neglect our service to God, and to others, because of our perceived inadequacies. We doubt, we hesitate, and we question whether God can really use someone like us.
The truth is we are inadequate. But our greater Redeemer, Jesus Christ, not only speaks for us but saves us by doing what we never could. In Him, our inadequacy is met with divine sufficiency.
