Obedience Meets Opposition
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Exodus Scripture: Exodus 5:1– 6:13
Have you ever tried to do the right thing, only to see things just fall apart? You step out in obedience, trusting God, and instead of seeing good results, you meet resistance, confusion, and discouragement. If you've experienced that, you're not alone.
In Exodus 5:1–6:13, Moses obeys God's call to speak to Pharaoh. But instead of freedom, the people of Israel are burdened with even harsher treatment. They begin to despair, and even Moses questions what God is doing.
How does God respond? He does not change course. He reminds Moses to tell the people of His covenant promises and who He is:
I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. (Exodus 6:6–7, ESV)
God's faithfulness is not proven by immediate success, but by His unchanging Word. That is still our guiding strength today as we look to our Lord Jesus Christ, who now has revealed Himself to be our Deliverer and Redeemer from slavery to sin.
