In this sermon we turn to Exodus 19, where Israel arrives at Mt. Sinai and the Lord descend in storm and fire. Before this, a covenant is made, and the people pledge, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do” (v. 8). But can they keep their promise?
Like Israel, we cannot obey God’s covenant in our own strength. Our vows and pledges more often reveal our weakness, not our ability. As God’s glory shakes the mountain, we see that no one can stand before Him by their own attempts.
We need to call out to the One who comes down to keep the covenant on our behalf.
Will you see your weakness more clearly and Christ’s sufficiency more fully?
