The Presence of the LORD
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Exodus Scripture: Exodus 33:1–16
In Exodus 33, Israel faces the consequences of sin after the golden calf. The Lord promises to bring them into the land, yet declares that He will not go with them. The central issue is not destination, but presence.
At the heart of the passage is Moses’ plea:
“If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15, ESV)
This sermon examines Moses as mediator, standing between a holy God and a sinful people. Through his intercession, the Lord’s presence is restored. Yet even this points beyond Moses to the greater Mediator, Jesus Christ, who not only brings us into God’s presence but is God with us (John 1:14).
