The Authority of the Gospel
Preacher: Todd Odenath Series: Galatians Scripture: Galatians 1:1–5
In this sermon from Galatians 1:1–5, we begin a new series through Paul’s letter to the Galatians by considering the authority of the gospel.
Paul opens by defending his apostleship, not because his personal reputation is the main issue, but because Christ’s gospel is at stake. His authority is not from men or through man, but from the risen Christ. And the message he brings is one of grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christ alone gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from this present evil age. Therefore, no human authority, religious work, or personal merit can be added to His saving work.
Galatians confronts our desire for grace and peace without Christ’s authority, and calls us to receive the gospel as Christ’s own authoritative word.
